Roberts, Wayne

 Person

Biography

Wayne E. Roberts attended Pacific College for one year, 1941-42. After completing military service as a non-combattant, he later took pre-med courses at the University of Kansas City, but he never completed an undergraduate degree. Instead, he stretched out his GI educational benefits by enrolling in medical school at Washington University in St. Louis as soon as he was eligible. After graduating he attended medical school and became a physician in 1952. Roberts was active in his Central Point, Ore., community and worked hard to support his alma mater. He chaired a committee to organize a Medical Society Care Program to provide free medical services to the unemployed in Jackson County. And, for 30 years (1954-84), he served on the George Fox Board of Trustees, becoming an honorary trustee in 1986. "Dr. Wayne" was chief of staff at what is now Rogue Regional Medical Center (1975-76); president of Jackson County Medical Society (1982); and a beloved Bible teacher, singer and elder at Medford Friends Church. Along with his family, he established the Frank D. Roberts Family Scholarship to help Greenleaf Academy students attend George Fox. In 1991 Roberts was presented the Alumni Heritage Award. He passed away in 2013.
