Student Directories, 1952-1996

It is unclear from the early student handbooks for George Fox Colelge what entity created the student handbooks, however, most early issues contain a message from the current college president and presidents of the student body and Student Christian Union. The student government at GFC has been variously called Associated Students (AS), Associated Student Body (ASB), and from 1957-1981 Associated Students of GFC (ASGFC). With the 1981-82 issue, the acronmyn that continued through 1996, was ASCGFC, representing Associated Student Community of GFC under one umbrella term that encompassed committees of student government and activities under one broad governance. The 1978-79 issue credited art designers, editors, and advisors by name. Acknowledgement of institutional oversight was first made in 1983-84 when the office of Associate Director of Student Life, Deb Lacey, issued the handbook according to an issued statement. After that, although the name of the office changed to Dean of Students and, later, to VP for Student Life, responsibility for production. During the years 1972-73 through 1980-81 the handbook was called: The First Resort, later a subtitle was added: George Fox College Student Handbook. In 1992-93, "The First Resort" appellation was dropped.
