biographical statement

Silas Moon was a Quaker missionary in Alaska under the auspices of Oregon Yearly Meeting. Silas and his wife Anna came to Douglas at their own expense. Silas and Anna were both Hoosiers who taught for the Osage Indian Agency. They were married in June 1883. Silas served as superintendent and Anna as matron of the school. Silas arrived in Lake March 9, 1894. He created good relations with the Native people and his family later arrived on September 22.
