Historical note
In 1880, W.P. Samms and his family moved into Wallowa County, Oregon, and started the first Sunday School in the area, along with the help of Jonathan Votaw. The town of Alder donated property to the meeting, and in 1886, a meeting house was finished in addition to a small parsonage.
