Historical note
A Sunday school began at a Whitney school on the South Bench in Boise, Idaho, around 1936, with the help of Mr. and Mrs. Wood and Ray Chandler, a missionary sent by the American Sunday School Union. Wendell and Hazel Murphy and Dan and Mattie Stevens were also involved. A Sunday School was organized in 1938 with temporary officers and teachers. Norman Gundry was the first pastor, serving until 1940. After being denied further use of the school room, they secured land and built a church of their own, which was dedicated on Feb. 26, 1939. On March 6, 1947, Whitney Friends Church was officially established as a monthly meeting under Oregon Yearly Meeting of Friends Churches.
