Hebrew Sefer Torah Scroll
Abstract
Scribed in the late 18th or very early 19th Century by North African Jews, likely Moroccan. Manuscript on Hebrew, on tanned sheepskins, sewn and scrolled. Some natural skin flaws, as expected. Approximately 20" tall, slightly uneven. Over 200 columns, comprising the Torah, or Pentateuch -- the Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy -- the first five books of the Jewish Bible (Tanakh) and the Christian Old Testament,

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
Minor staining and wear. Some edge wear and small tears, some into text. Some splitting at stitching, as expected. Some repairs / restoration / replacement. Two places of noteably amateurish re-sticking with non-kasher giddin. Gloves must be worn when handled.
Custodial History
Transferred from Portland Center Libraries to be stored in the archives for safekeeping.
